Pangea Ultima: Earth in 250 Million Years






Explanation: Is this what will become of the Earth's surface? The surface of the Earth is broken up into several large plates that are slowly shifting. About 250 million years ago, the plates on which the present-day continents rest were positioned quite differently, so that all the landmasses were clustered together in one supercontinent now dubbed Pangea. About 250 million years from now, the plates are again projected to reposition themselves so that a single landmass dominates. The above simulation from the PALEAOMAP Project shows this giant landmass: Pangea Ultima. At that time, the Atlantic Ocean will be just a distant memory, and whatever beings inhabit Earth will be able to walk from North America to Africa.

Forest and Sky





Explanation: With pine trees in dim silhouette, this skyscape from Breil-sur-Roya in southern France was captured on November 11. In the early evening scene, a satellite seems to streak through the branches, while bright, round, fuzzy Comet Holmes appears to lie just beyond them, near the stars of the constellation Perseus. Mirfak, alpha star of Perseus, is the brightest star above the comet and to the right. Next Monday (November 19), Holmes will be close enough to Mirfak to view the star through the remarkable comet's expanding coma. Recent measurements place the dusty coma's diameter at about 1.4 million kilometers, even larger than the Sun.

Starry Night Castle




Explanation: The tantalizing Pleiades star cluster seems to lie just beyond the trees above a dark castle tower in this dramatic view of The World at Night. Recorded earlier this month, the starry sky also features bright star Aldebaran below the Pleiades and a small, faint, fuzzy cloud otherwise known as Comet Holmes near picture center at the top of the field. Starry Night Castle might be an appropriate name for the medieval castle ruin in the foreground. But its traditional name is Mörby Castle, found north of Stockholm, near lake Skedviken in Norrtälje, Sweden.

Venus and Jupiter in Morning Skies




Explanation: These two celestial beacons shining brightly in the east before sunrise are actually children of the Sun, the planets Venus and Jupiter. The second and third brightest objects in the sky at Night after the Moon, Venus and Jupiter appeared separated by about 2 degrees when this picture was taken on January 30th, but closed to within nearly half a degree early yesterday morning. In the serene foreground is the shoreline along the Miankaleh Peninsula and Gorgan Bay, an important bird and wildlife refuge in the southeastern Caspian Sea. Over the next two days, early morning risers around the globe will be able to enjoy a close pairing of Venus and Jupiter with an old crescent Moon.

Sky Delights Over Sweden





Explanation: This night was a sky enthusiast's delight. While relaxing in Sweden last week, many a cosmic wonder was captured with a single snapshot. They are described here from near to far. In the foreground are nearby trees and more distant snow covered mountains. In silhouette, Clouds can be seen just above the horizon, and a careful eye can even discern the more distant green and red auroras which occur in Earth's upper atmosphere. Red emission nebulas dot the sky, including the Heart and Soul Nebulas, IC 1396 and the North America Nebula. Running diagonally from the upper left to the lower right is the majestic glowing band of our Milky Way Galaxy's central plane.. More distant than everything else, appearing as it did over two million years ago, is the Andromeda galaxy, visible above the horizon toward on the lower left.

چه رنگين كمان زيبايي است




      چه رنگين كمان زيبايي است اين لايه هاي رسوبي كه رقصيده و لغزيده و از هم ، گريخته اند .
  دردرون. اين رخ زيبا  غولي  ترسناك ، خفته است و خموش . گوش كنيد :
   اين عكسي است ماهواره اي كه نشانگر ويژگي " زمين شناختي ساختماني " گستره اي از شمال باختري سرزمين چين است .
   عكس بيانگر مقدار و نوع انرژي بازتاب يافته يا بيرون پريده از شگستگي و جابجايي زمين است كه زمين شناسان " گسله " مي نامند . اين گسله  ، درازايي برابر 3 كيلومتر دارد .

    سنگ ها ومناطق برشى ، اغلب غنى از اورانيوم هستند به همين دليل چنين مناطقى تمرکزهاى بالايى از گاز رادون دارند. در طول گسل ها ، اين افزايش به سبب افزايش ميزان رادون در اثر مهاجرت آن است زيرا نفوذ پذيرى آن در طول گسلها زياد است .
    "رادون " در نتیجه تجزیة طبیعی اورانیوم در سنگ‌ها و خاک، در هوا منتشر می‌شود. گازی است بی‌رنگ، بی‌بو و بی‌طعم که از درون ِ زمین به بیرون تراوش می‌کند و در هوا پخش می‌شود. در بعضی از مناطق، بسته به زمین‌شناسی محلی، رادون در آب‌های زمینی حل می‌شود و در هنگام استفاده از آن، در هوا منتشر  مي شود. به‌طور معمول سطح رادون در خارج از منازل (در نواحی غیرسربسته) پایین است. البته در بعضی از مناطق که تهویة مناسبی وجود ندارد (مانند معادن زیرزمینی) رادون در محل جمع می‌شود و سطح آن به‌حدي می‌رسد که می‌تواند خطر ابتلا به سرطان ریه و مغز را افزایش دهد.

اين است يكي از كاربرد هاي" دانش پايه " در بهداشت و سلامتي انسان ها ،كه با افسوس ، در سرزمين هاي مصرف كننده تكنولوژي اين دانش  از جايگاه پستي بر خوردار است .
